Tam Bodkin Bryk began oil painting at the age of nine and it has been her passion ever since. Tam concentrates primarily on Classical Still-Life yet also frequently paints in the trompe l’oeil style. Trompe l’oeil is a French term which literally means “trick the eye”. This style of painting gives the appearance of three-dimensional or photographic realism. In each painting Tam carefully selects her “subjects” so they play off one another in the attempt to engage and entertain the onlooker. In this era of instant digital imagery realistic art produced using traditional methodology is very compelling to Tam. She prefers the slow process of completing her paintings using centuries old techniques. It is through this practice Tam finds a connection to artists throughout the ages. The process of working in a time-honored method, using traditional materials and methods is inspiring and fulfilling.
Tam lives and works in her studio in Iowa City, Iowa.
