Amy Austin (b.1994) lives and works in East Sussex. She is currently studying a MA in Fine Art at Brighton University.

Amy’s artwork reflects her profound fascination with the art of storytelling. Drawing inspiration from folklore and mythology, she delves into the realm of the female experience within various environments.

Her figures take on the appearance of archetypes, with some exuding strength even in isolation, while others remain shrouded in mystery. These figures inhabit their own alternate universe, where the written word, be it her own or that of others, serves as a source of inspiration. Within Amy’s work, she interweaves narratives, enabling characters to traverse their own stories while simultaneously uncovering her personal mythologies.

The heart of Amy’s artistic practice is rooted in drawing. It is through this foundational medium that she explores a myriad of techniques and materials, allowing the creative process itself to assume a pivotal role in shaping each artwork. Some pieces emerge intuitively, guided by the medium's inherent qualities, while others arise from fragments of drawings that are assembled, observed, and subsequently transformed.

Ultimately, Amy’s artwork serves as a conduit between the ethereal realms of folklore and mythology and the tangible world we inhabit. It invites viewers to immerse themselves in a realm of visual storytelling, where the boundaries of reality and imagination blur, and the forgotten voices of the past are given new life through the power of artistic expression.
