Marica Borbas-Toth
Budapest, Hungary
I am a visual artist working and living in Budapest. I received my MFA Painting at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.
In my works, I am seeking answers on how to dissolve the frustration caused by urban living. My aim is to create a surface that can serve as a visual refuge in this sensory-overloaded world. In my recent series, I strive to alleviate these sensations by incorporating organic elements.
Photographs depicting nature or one of my plants can serve as a starting point for a painting. I enjoy observing the visual interplay of leaves as they fold and obscure each other's outlines. This strongly manifests in my compositions, as layered organic windows take shape on the canvas surface.
My paintings are on the boundary between abstraction and representation. I predominantly use acrylic, oil paint, and charcoal.
