Rachael Addis is a contemporary painter based at Rogue Artists’ studios in Manchester. Her formative years were spent between the Lake District and Asia and remain a key influence on her artistic processes, chosen pigments and overall aesthetic.

Rachael’s practice involves working with acrylic, oil and ink to create visually beautiful works full of mesmerising detail. Distinctive mark making in her paintings have been described as “visual sound” due to its meditative and rhythmic nature. Zen, Buddhism, Eastern philosophical thought and pioneering Abstract Expressionists have profoundly influenced her style and attitude to the painted surface.

Following a degree in Fine Art, Rachael completed the 3 year Postgraduate programme at the Royal Academy of Arts Schools, London, in 2003. Having dedicated much of her early career to teaching at degree level and in Further Education, she took a break from art to raise two boys. Beginning to paint seriously again in 2018, Rachael is now exhibiting widely and exploring new ways of creating as a re-emerging artist.
