Press Release
Conart was founded on the belief that a true connection with the artist and their story, enables the viewer to connect with the artwork in a way that honours the time and creative energy put into the artwork. This, coupled with the understanding of how art can positively impact well-being and occupants' experience of any space, means that in-person exhibitions with the opportunity to spend time with the artists are fundamental to the Conart vision.
In these artists' works, abstraction, mythical narratives, and the figure are explored and presented to the viewer. The rhythmic works of Rebecca Hardaker, extremely well-received internationally, utilise scale and colour to allow the artist freedom of expression. Kay Gasei, a former Soho House artist in residence, focuses on expressive narratives both historical and alluding to the present-day and cultural moments. Each artist exhibits their own language with the commonality of working in London and living in this cultural moment.
Mia Wilkinson utilises humour in her wonderfully detailed works, and poignant and funny commentary on gender, sex, and the language that surrounds it all, offering the viewer a new perspective. Preston Paperboy too tackles the contemporary concoction of commercialisation, mental health, and identity through his powerful portraits which highlight his exceptional draughtsmanship skills.
The dreamy, blurred landscapes and figures in the work of Rico White hark back to a more traditional style of painting but with an exciting development in his use of composition and colour to distort the stories and create new spaces on the canvas. Anton Byrne-Carter takes great inspiration from the oil paintings of the 18th century and reimagines them in epic scale, inviting the viewer to interpret the abstracted floral scenes.
Conart is excited and inspired by these artists and what they are creating and achieving, and to present a unique opportunity to view the artworks and enjoy conversation with the artists is a pleasure.
