Holly Elan Watson
London, United Kingdom
London born artist, Holly Elan Watson (b.1995), graduated from UWE in 2017 with a BA in Fine Art and Visual Culture and completed the Turps Banana Correspondence Course in 2022. She has exhibited works both across the UK and internationally.
Holly uses inks and fluid acrylics to make playful and intimate works exploring the drive to experience and discover a range of sensations. By working on paper and raw canvas using water based media and a wet on wet method of painting, she embraces the fluid and translucent qualities of the medium to play with layered and bleeding pigment.
Holly’s recent body of work has been exploring themes of sexuality, pleasure, nature and discovery through the senses- namely taste and touch. In these paintings, the use of fruits, fingers and wildlife explore the ways in which various sensations can evoke different emotions. Holly enjoys creating imagined narratives within her works, often encouraging a subtle humour through the use of gently bawdy imagery to celebrate the body and our place in nature in ways both silly and sensual.
